Check-in & Check out
What time is check-in?
The official check-in time is from 3pm. Should you arrive earlier, we will gladly accept your luggage and we can prepare the check-in in advance. We will do our best to have your room ready as soon as possible, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee this before 3pm.
What time is check-out?
Our official check-out time is at 11:00. Would you like to stay a bit longer? You can! We offer - if available - a late check-out until 1pm at the latest. For this we charge €10 per extra hour. If you would like to use your room after 13:00, we will be happy to book an extra night's stay for you.
Location & transport
How far is the hotel from the city centre?
Our hotel is in the middle of Rotterdam's bustling city centre, on Aert van Nesstraat. As soon as you walk out of the hotel, you are almost directly on the lively Lijnbaan shopping street, so everything the city centre has to offer is within easy reach!
Does the hotel offer a shuttle service to and from the airport?
The hotel itself does not offer a shuttle service to or from the airport, but fortunately the route is simple. From the airport, you can take the bus to Rotterdam Central Station, which is within walking distance of the hotel.
Prefer another stop closer? Then you can travel from the station by metro line D or E and get off at Stadhuis stop, close to the hotel.
Where else can I park my car?
If you cannot park in our car park, fortunately there are good alternatives nearby. You can park your car at Q-Park Bijenkorf, directly opposite the hotel. Another possibility is Q-Park Coolsingel, located behind the hotel. At both locations, the cost is €30 per 24 hours. We recommend booking in advance via the Q-Park website, so you can be sure of a parking space when you arrive.

How can I book a room at The James Hotel?
Booking a room at The James Hotel is very easy! You are welcome to book via our website www.thejames.nl, send an e-mail to info@thejames.nl, or - for group bookings - to reservations@thejames.nl. Of course, you are also welcome at our reception, and we are happy to answer any questions or requests over the phone.
Where can I see hotel rates / How much does a room/night cost?
Our rates are calculated per day, so costs may vary. Don't worry, it's very simple! Just enter your desired stay date on our website and our system will show you the best price instantly. Of course, we are also happy to help you at reception, by phone or by e-mail.
Until when can I cancel my booking if necessary?
This depends on the rate at which you booked your room. We offer two different rates:
Fully-Flexible and Non-Refundable.
Fully-Flexible: This rate allows you to cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before arrival, giving you extra flexibility if something changes in your plans.
For bookings made through online travel agencies (OTAs), the following conditions apply:
Booking.com: 48 hours prior to arrival
Expedia.com: 72 hours prior to arrival
Agoda.com: 48 hours prior to arrival
Hotels.com: 72 hours prior to arrival
Non-Refundable: At this rate, it is unfortunately not possible to cancel or change the reservation free of charge, both for direct bookings and bookings through OTAs such as Booking.com, Expedia, and so on.
Can I check in without a reservation number?
Yes, it is possible to check in without a reservation number. In that case, make sure you provide the full name on which the reservation was made.
Is there an age restriction in the hotel?
Yes, we have a minimum age limit of 25 years for check-in. This applies to at least one guest in the party, preferably the main booker.
This way, we ensure that all guests can enjoy a pleasant and relaxing stay.
Facilities & Services
What are the reception opening hours?
Our reception is open day and night - 24 hours a day we are at your service.
Is there parking available at the hotel?
Yes, The James Hotel has its own automatic car park. There are a limited number of spaces available (maximum 20), so we recommend booking in advance to ensure a spot. Please note that the garage has certain dimensions: a maximum of 1.80 metres wide, 1.80 metres high and 4.50 metres long. The cost for a parking space is €20 per night.
Would you like us to book a taxi for you?
We can easily arrange a taxi for you at any time. This can be done directly on the spot, but if you wish, we are also happy to book a taxi in advance for the date and time you specify.
Is Wi-Fi available in the hotel/room?
Yes, we offer free WiFi throughout the hotel, under the name The James Guests. The nice thing is that no password is required - you can just log in and be online instantly!
Do you have any special packages/arrangements for our stay?
Yes, we offer some great packages and arrangements! You can check all available options on our website www.thejames.nl, send an email to info@thejames.nl, or of course give us a call. We hope there is something in between that will make your stay even more special!
Are there any non-smoking rooms?
Yes, The James Hotel is completely non-smoking. This ensures a fresh and comfortable environment for all our guests. The hotel does not have a roof terrace or balconies, but should you still wish to smoke, this is possible at the front or side of the building.
Can I park my own bike at or in the hotel?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to park your own bike at our hotel. Also to keep the hotel rooms in good condition, bicycles cannot be taken upstairs. But don't worry, our reception will be happy to help you and can point out convenient bike racks near the hotel.
Can I hire a bike at the hotel?
Yes, you certainly can! You can hire a bike for €18 per day or for €12.50 for 3 hours. We recommend booking the bikes in advance, which can easily be done through our reception - whether by phone, email or simply at the front desk.
Can I get an iron in the room?
Yes indeed! We have a number of irons and ironing boards available for our guests. These cannot be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
Due to the limited number, they can be used for a maximum of 30 minutes. After that, we kindly ask you to return the iron to reception, or we will come back to collect it from you.
Does the hotel have breakfast?
Yes, definitely! On the second floor of the hotel you will find our cosy Food Market. Here you can put together your own breakfast and enjoy it quietly in the cosy lounge that goes with it.
Breakfast is available between 07:00 and 12:00. You only pay for what you choose, so there is no fixed price. This keeps it fair and flexible - and together we help prevent food waste, which is also very important to us.
Is there a gluten-free breakfast option?
Absolutely! We offer several products in our Food Market. We would like to know in advance if you would like gluten-free plates at breakfast, so we will make sure they are ready!
Can meal delivery companies (such as Uber Eats/Thuisbezorgd) come by?
Of course, you can feel free to order food from outside. The delivery drivers may wait for you in the lobby. Unfortunately, they cannot bring the food to the room due to security reasons, nor are we allowed to accept the food at reception. Once the food has arrived, we will give you a call so you can pick it up from the delivery driver downstairs.
I have added Food Market vouchers to my reservation, how does this work?
How nice of you to (use) our Food Market vouchers! You can choose the products you like for breakfast at your leisure in the morning and pay for them at the self-scan checkout.
At checkout, select ‘Scan voucher’ on the screen and simply scan the QR code of your voucher.
-Is there any credit left? No worries - you can simply use the remaining amount on your next payment.
-A little tip: keep your voucher safe. If lost, we unfortunately cannot refund the amount.
Are pets allowed at The James Hotel?
As much as we would like to, pets are unfortunately not allowed in our hotel.
Do you offer a laundry service?
Yes, we offer a laundry service in cooperation with an external launderette. In each hotel room, you will find a price list with the items that can be brought in.
If you want to use this service, we ask you to fill in the list yourself and drop it off at reception together with the laundry in the bag provided before 10:00 in the morning. We expect the clean laundry to be back with us later in the day.
Can I store my luggage before check-in / after check-out?
Yes, this is definitely possible! We have two locked luggage rooms where you can leave your luggage before or after your stay. We work with a numbering system, so you can only collect your luggage if you have the correct number with you.
Do the staff speak other languages as well as Dutch?
Our staff are fluent in both Dutch and English. In addition, we always do our best to understand and help our guests, regardless of language.
Does the hotel have a gym or spa?
Our hotel has a gym which is free to use for hotel guests. The gym is open daily from 07:00 to 23:00. Unfortunately, we do not have a spa.
Are there meeting rooms available at the hotel?
We have one meeting room in our hotel, which can accommodate up to 12 people. The room should always be booked in advance via reservations@thejameshotel. The cost is €275 for a full day (8 hours) and €175 for 4 hours. The price includes coffee, tea, water and sweets. Lunch can be booked separately at an additional cost.
Do you have a city map or tourist information?
Sure! We have a city map available, specially designed by our own colleagues, with great tips and advice for discovering Rotterdam. Feel free to ask for a map at reception and we will be happy to share the hidden gems of Rotterdam with you.
Does the hotel have a bar?
Our hotel does not have a bar, but you are welcome to visit our 24/7 Food Market on the second floor. Here you can choose a drink or snack at any time of the day. Feel free to take a seat in the adjoining lounge to enjoy your snack or drink in peace.
How can I order a gift card for your hotel?
This can be done via our reservations department! You may send an e-mail to reservations@thejames.nl for this purpose. A gift card can be purchased in €50,- €100,- or €150,-. It will then be personally sent to your home address.
Are there any special offers for long-term stays or business guests?
If you would like to stay at The James on a business basis and plan to do so several times a month, we recommend sending an email to our reservations department. Based on 100 nights per year, we can offer you a suitable price arrangement. If you stay less than 100 nights per year but would still like a discount, you may be eligible for a personal discount code. You can reach our reservations department by email at reservations@thejames.nl.
Can I arrange a taxi through the hotel?
You certainly can! We work with Florijn drivers and can easily arrange a taxi for you. This can be done either before or after your stay.
Can I still use the lounge after check-out?
You certainly may. If you would like to do some more work or relax prior to your trip, you are welcome to use our second floor!
Do you offer a wake-up call service?
Yes we do! If you have some trouble waking up early in the morning or just late at night, we are here for you. We will give a call to your room to make sure you wake up on time. Don't you answer the phone? Then we will knock on your room door.
Room information
We are travelling with children. Can extra beds be placed in the room?
Yes, we are happy to offer the option of placing a cot in your room, absolutely free of charge for children up to 3 years old. For children over 3 years old, you can request an extra bed, which is subject to a surcharge.
Extra beds can only be placed in the more spacious room types: Comfort double/twin plus, Superior double plus and Deluxe rooms. The charge for an extra bed is €40 per night.
Is there a safe in the room?
There is a safe in each room, which you can use free of charge throughout your stay.
Is there a smart TV in the room?
All rooms are equipped with a smart TV, so you can enjoy Netflix and other apps of your choice.
You can even stream from your phone to the TV!
Do the hotel rooms have air conditioning?
Our hotel rooms are equipped with an air circulation system, which allows us to adjust the temperature in the room up to 3 degrees above or below the regular hotel temperature to create a pleasant climate. Although this system is not traditional air conditioning, it does provide extra comfort during your stay.
Can I invite friends or family to my hotel room?
It depends on your booking. If the room is booked for two people who are both already registered, it is unfortunately not allowed to bring an extra guest to the room.
Did you book the room alone, but is it suitable for two people? Then you are welcome to invite an extra guest. However, we kindly ask you to register this person at our reception, so that we always know who is staying at the hotel - for everyone's safety.
Is there a hairdryer in the room?
Yes there is a hairdryer in every room.
What exactly does a ‘do not disturb’ card on the door mean?
You will find a ‘Do Not Disturb’ card in every hotel room. Hanging this on the outside of your door means that you do not want to be disturbed. Our staff will then - except in emergencies - not enter your room. This also means that Housekeeping or Technical Services will not visit your room at that time.
Does the hotel have disabled rooms?
Yes, we have two fully equipped disabled rooms, furnished with all the necessary facilities for a pleasant and comfortable stay. In addition, the hotel has a lift for easy access to all floors.
Do you have connecting rooms?
No, unfortunately we do not offer connecting rooms. We do have two special family rooms, which can accommodate 4 people and a baby cot if necessary.
Do you have rooms with guaranteed city views?
We certainly do! Please note, these are the following room types:

Absolutely! These are the following room types:

Is coffee and tea included in the room?
Yes, you may use all the tea bags and coffee cups provided in the room free of charge. If you run out during your stay, please let our reception know! We will make sure this is replenished.
Can I get a pillow of my choice (e.g. hypoallergenic or extra soft)?
Unfortunately, we only offer 1 type of pillow. If you would like a second pillow, there is always 1 available in the hotel room itself.
Do you offer room service?
No, unfortunately we do not offer room service. This is because we do not have a restaurant. Fortunately, we do have a Food Market on our second floor which is open 24 hours a day!
Can I drink the water from the tap?
You certainly can. The water in the Netherlands is so purified that you can drink it normally.
Payments
Is a deposit required?
Yes, we ask for a deposit of €100 at check-in. This deposit is a guarantee for the room and will be returned in full at check-out, provided the room is left in good condition. You can pay the deposit by credit card or cash.
Can I get an invoice with company details?
We can add company details to your invoice. Send us your company details and we will make sure they are included on the invoice. This can be done in advance or during your stay
